What is poplin?

Poplin is a tightly woven cotton fabric with a smooth, fine surface. Thanks to its plain weave, poplin is especially stable, yet comfortable to wear. Depending on its finish, it can be firm or have a slightly softer drape – ideal for garments that need a bit more structure.

• Less prone to wrinkling than other cotton fabrics

• Use a universal needle, size 70 or 80

• Finish raw edges or use French seams
• Works well with fusible interfacing or batting

• Machine washable at 30, 40 °C
• Usually easy to iron, even without steam
• Can go in the dryer, but air-drying is gentler
• Wash bright colors separately the first time
